My favorite part of working with entrepreneurs and small business owners, is the start up process. Man, its a thrill! So much excitement.

So this week I decided to write a little about starting up.

Its scary, intimidating but super exciting. I have clients and friends coming to me with their ideas and we just start brainstorming. One of my biggest tips I give is write everything down and most important write your business plan.

When I write a business plan its not just your two to four page template that you download from the internet. But, I grab a file.... I get dividers.... and I print an empty index. And voila! you started.

Then I start my business plan by making a checklist of everything that I know that needs to me in my planning and that needs to be done. EVERYTHING you can think of, your ideal client, your competition, start up costs, running costs, licenses you need, your logo, your brand and anything else you can think of that can be very important to you and your business.

People look at me and the first thing they think is "what a waste of time". I can promise you that planning and starting with something so small will help you tremendously, and the last thing you will be thinking is what a waste of time this was. It forces you to plan properly, be ready and, as corny as this may sound. It makes your dream feel real.

Good luck with your start up!
